After much thought, I have decided to leave deviantART. I just can't stand what this site is turning into. Anyone can submit anything they want, even if it obviously is not their own work. I'm seeing masses of photos of celebrities submitted as stock and photos taken from Target ads submitted as photography and the admins are not willing to do what needs to be done. Ick! As a true artist, I am repulsed. It has all been downhill since that evil clown led the mutiny against Jark, the true creator of deviantART. This site used to be a community which stood for something. Now, it's just a digital junk drawer. That been said, there is now a group admin spot open. Stay tuned. The others will arrange something to choose my replacement. As I am the original creator of this group, it is my hope that they choose well. ;)

So sorry to see you go. I understand where you are coming from.

FWIW, I never use deviantART for stock, though I've submitted some. I use Wikimedia Commons for stock almost exclusively, where they do check these things with some diligence. It won't have everything that everybody wants, but they have a lot of classical architecture, weapons, and other props; and what's there, unlike deviantART stock, will not have any strings attached.

I'll agree nothing of this is really new, it's just more blatant than before, and the admins are only worried about banning copyright stuff, since it can make them lose money.

Anyway, it sucks to see you go. Good luck.

I think dA is still awesome. See, what you have to understand is that the VAST majority of works on this site is honest to goodness art. BTW, art is not limited to putting pen, or brush, or digipen, or what have you, to paper, canvas, tablet, etc. Art is what you make of it. I respect (and disagree with) you. Take care though, good that the group is still in tact.

There was a change in site policy which gave the administrators of the site the right to use anyone's work without permission. Jark spoke out and there was a coup.

Shouldn't that be against the LAW? :|

Yes, it is. It is also unethical, but unless the site admins are willing to enforce it, people will continue to take advantage.

hi, I disagree with reducing everybody and every artpieces on dA to "junk". There are an awesome number of small communities running on good basis your statement is not respectful to them.
I also think when facing the kind of behaviour you condemn the best to do is to make a stand. Not patronize around, but just doing the right things and show that the internet don't belong to jerks.
